- A REAL GEM - boat kept in impeccable conditionThe MOTOR YACHT GAIA has a fascinating and intriguing history: è A displacement-type shuttle built in the late 1950s at the Schurenstedt shipyard in Germany. Originally named Kormoran, she was refitted for a German owner as a private yacht and later sold to an Italian owner and transferred to the Mediterranean..Years later, it was acquired by a Sicilian shipowner who, working with naval architect Biriaco at the Rodriguez shipyard, gave the boat its current configuration by extending the flybridge. The hull remains original to this day..In the early 2000s, a new Italian shipowner operated the ferry until 2008, when it was purchased by the current owner. The ferry was stored in a covered warehouse in Genoa Voltri, completely dismantled, with only the new engines and generators (0 hours) assembled but not installed, and with the structural framework intact..Starting in 2008, the engines and generators were installed by Cummins of S.
