XBOAT ref: 6229.br /This 2002 Dean 440 was built by Dean Catamarans in Cape Town, South Africa. It has been our full-time home in French Polynesia for the past three years, but health issues now require us to change our lifestyle. In the pursuit of extreme seaworthiness, all Dean catamarans feature highly buoyant bows with a forward-extending foredeck and a small trampoline area. They have asymmetrical hulls, where the outer curvature is much more pronounced than the inner curvature, which reduces wave formation between the hulls (reduced Venturi effect). This, combined with high freeboard, significantly reduces slamming under the deck while improving overall performance..Another distinctive feature of Dean catamarans is the mast, which is raked back by 7 degrees. This unusual design enhances both the boat’s upwind performance and its ability to tack without the difficulties associated with some other catamarans. We loved our DEAN 440 for many reasons. First of all, the Dean 440 offers the perfect blend of space, comfort, and performance. It sails much better than a standard catamaran, while remaining comfortable and easy to handle. Second, the boat has a galley below deck, which offers much more comfort and usable space than the galleys found on deck, which are designed for charter use..The boat was imported into French Polynesia and can therefore remain there indefinitely, whether for short vacations or long-term cruises in the world’s best cruising area. Or, set off on the trip of a lifetime from here—the boat is fully equipped and ready to go (all you need to bring are your toothbrushes).History :This Dean 440 has had three owners. The first owner was American, and the boat was based on the East Coast of the United States. In 2016, the boat was purchased by its second owner—a German. He sailed through the Caribbean and transited the Panama Canal in late 2019, arriving in French Polynesia in March 2020.We purchased the boat in Tahiti on August 1, 2022, and since then we have been living on board full-time in French Polynesia. It is currently in active use and underway. The boat has been "Papeetized" / im
